The flow temperature decision, and the note that outlives it
Approved Document L asks a new wet space heating system to be designed to work at a maximum flow temperature of 55°C. In an existing dwelling that is often not feasible, and the document says so itself: where there is not enough space for larger radiators, the system should instead be designed to the lowest design temperature that will still meet the heating needs of the dwelling.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme moved the evidence onto the installer
On paper this opens the scheme up. In practice it moves a piece of paperwork. Where there is no valid certificate, the application carries the reference for an expired one if there is any, where the Authority asks for it, plus whatever else the Authority requires. Somebody has to gather that, and it is not the householder standing in a cold kitchen.

Photograph the merchant receipt on the way out. Fittings, consumables and van diesel are categorised into the SA103F boxes the Self Assessment return actually asks for, so the year end starts from records that already exist.
Your own qualifications, scheme memberships and insurance are stored with their expiry dates alongside all of it, so a registration coming up for renewal is visible before it lapses rather than after.
What it deliberately does not do, so you find out here rather than later:
- It does not write an unvented hot water certificate, an EICR or an Electrical Installation Certificate. Those are different instruments from a single-job form, and what makes any of them valid is the registration behind the signature, which sits with the scheme provider.
- There is no dispatch, no shared diary and no engineer tracking. It is built for one person who does the work and the admin.
- There is no offline mode. It needs a connection, and there is nowhere for work done in a cellar with no signal to go until it comes back.

What is software for plumbers?
One place to run the paperwork around the work: quoting a job, getting it agreed, recording what the parts cost, invoicing when it is finished and chasing it if it goes late. For a sole trader the point is not coordinating a team, it is that nothing quoted on a Tuesday is still unsent on Friday.
Does it work for heating as well as plumbing?
Yes. Quotes, jobs, invoices and expenses are the same shape whether the job is a leaking trap or a system swap, and a landlord's gas safety record is written here, carrying a code a landlord or tenant can check without an account. Where it does not go is the unvented certificate, the EICR and the EIC, which are different instruments. Nothing here confers the registration that makes any certificate valid.
Can I use it for emergency callouts?
A callout can be raised as a job and invoiced without a quote first, which is the usual shape when someone is standing in water. The quote step exists when you want it, not because the software insists on it.
Does it track my Gas Safe registration?
Your own qualifications, scheme memberships and insurance documents are stored with their expiry dates, so a registration that is about to lapse is visible before it does. It does not renew anything for you and it does not talk to any scheme.
What happens to my records if I stop paying?
You keep access to your own data and can export it. A sole trader has to keep business records for years after the filing deadline, so software that strands them when a subscription ends is a problem rather than a feature.
Does My Job Goblin tell me whether I am actually making money?
Yes, and that is the half most job software leaves out. It records the quote and the invoice like anything else, then does the arithmetic on top: revenue per available working day, margin per job against materials and subcontractor cost, quote win rate with the range it could really be, and how long customers take to pay weighted by the size of the invoice. Turnover on its own hides all four. No figure is shown on a sample too small to support it. Where there is too little history the card renders nothing, rather than a number with a caveat underneath it.
What is revenue per available working day?
It is what a day of your available time earned, rather than what you charged for a day you worked. Take the money received in a period and divide it by the working days that period held, from the working pattern you set. Hotels have measured this for decades as revenue per available room, because a room nobody booked is revenue that can never be recovered. A Tuesday you did not fill is exactly the same thing. Does it compare my prices against other tradespeople?
No, and that is deliberate. There is no benchmarking against other businesses. Trades publish no prices, day rates or availability in any machine-readable form, so a peer comparison in this market is either a very small sample or an invented one. Every figure compares a trader against their own history. A benchmark against a handful of unrepresentative businesses, or against a number nobody can source, is worse than no benchmark at all.
How much is it?

Why is the free tier so small?
The cap is small on purpose. A free tier big enough to run a trade on has to be paid for by the traders who do pay, and they are one-person businesses on a flat £29 a month with no per-seat fee. What the free tier proves is the whole loop rather than the volume: build the quote, send it, let the customer approve it, invoice it.
